A Student’s Typical Day

A normal day at Kigezi High School starts with the rigging of the bell. The time would be around 5.30-6.00 a.m. After prayers, students make their beds, wash their faces, brush their teeth and shower before heading for Owokyi/breakfast

School Rules & Regulations

Kigezi High School follows the Anglican way of worship and all students are expected to attend all school chapel services. Roman Catholics, Moslems and Seventh Day Adventists are officially catered for to ensure they develop in their spiritual well-being. All prayers take place in the School Chapel and no student is expected to create another prayer place without the permission of the Headmistress.

These rules and regulations are to help all at Kigezi High School i.e. staff, parents and students to achieve the National Objectives and have the future leaders properly nurtured. Because these studentss are not yet adults, they are still in the process of developing a value system based on established morals and social codes of society.

The ultimate aim of Kigezi High School is to produce all round educated students who are literate, skillful, confident, have self-respect and are God fearing in order for them to live in the present society in comfort.

INDUCTION FOR NEW STAFF/STUDENTS

All new students and staff are inducted via a meeting with senior management of the school into the norms and culture, traditions and direction of the school so that they are brought on board and quickly settle in for serious work.

RULES AND REGULATIONS.

Each student possesses a copy of school rules duly signed by the parent and the student and each rule has a corresponding penalty in case of its violation. School rules in detail are appendixed at the end of this Handbook.

REGISTERING STUDENTS AND MANAGING ATTENDANCE

New students report for registration at the Headmaster’s office with various school requirements and after that they settle in school. Roll-call sheets by prefects and subject teachers help in tracking class attendance and defaulters are handed over to the Central pool for onward action.

LEARNERS’ CODE FOR STUDENTS

Learners are expected to be smart in their uniform, punctual, equipped with the scholastic apparatus and are required to attend all school-organised functions. Their active participation is of paramount vitality

THE ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE/TREE

PROCEDURES FOR STAFF/STUDENT ABSENCE

A Teachers’ attendance book is available in the Staff lounge where they daily sign-in and sign-out. I case of absence from station, they seek and obtain permission from the senior management team. There is punishment for anyone flouting this procedure.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TALENTED/GIFTED STUDENTS

Bursary schemes differ from class to class as follows;
S.1 and S.2 Full bursary is for being the 1st with an average of 80% and above,
S.3 and S.4 bursary is awarded for being the 2nd or 3rd with an average of 75% and above

Half Bursary is also available as follows;
S.1 and S.2 ,it is awarded for being the 2nd or 3rd with an average of 75% and above
S.3 and S.4, it is awarded for being the 2nd or 3rd with an average of 70% and above
S.5 and S.6(Sciences), it is awarded for being the 1st or 2nd with 20points and above
S.5 and S.6(Arts) ,it is awarded for being the 1st or 2nd with 22 points and above

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES- STAFF AND STUDENTS

The staff disciplinary committee handle cases of indiscipline for students and their recommendations are verified by the staff for an appropriate action especially where there is no clear-cut penalty for the said offence. The undisciplined staff is handled by the Headmaster, the Discipline committee of the Board of Governors and the Commissioner of Secondary Education.

EXAM TARGETS

The Examinations office has a humble target to be the top school in National Examinations in the District and will later build on that success to be the leading school in the Country.

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES I.E. STUDENT ADMIN/ADMISSIONS, PERSONNEL, HEALTH AND SAFETY, FINANCIAL PROCEDURES/BUDGET ALLOCATION

The students have their democratically elected leaders whom they deploy in charge of various sub-committees to boost health, academic, security and follow up with the Headmaster issues on their welfare.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

There is a study leave policy where the teachers intending to go for further studies obtain permission from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. Staff development Workshops are held every term at school to have more capacity building within the staff. District and nationally organised science, wildlife, Human Rights and Entrepreneurship workshops are regularly attended to keep abreast with current trends in education.
